This Father’s Day, I want to honor and celebrate my dad…

This Father’s Day, I want to honor and celebrate my dad, Kenny Allen, a true embodiment of the hero’s journey.

A pivotal figure in our family’s story is Mary Curless. She owned Curless Printing Co. in Blanchester, Ohio, and played an instrumental role in shaping our family’s future. Mary offered my grandpa a job at her print shop after he finished working on the railroads, providing much-needed stability. Her support and generosity extended beyond employment; she took care of my grandparents and, when she passed away in the 90s, even willed her house to them.

My dad, Kenny Allen, was able to start his own print company, Lazer Systems, Inc., drawing inspiration and skills from his history of watching his dad work at Mary Curless’s print shop, Curless Printing. Growing up in a household where my grandfather transitioned from railroad work to the print industry under Mary Curless’s guidance, my dad was immersed in the world of printing from a young age.

Mary Curless's kindness and support provided my grandpa with stability and a new career path, which left a lasting impression on my dad. This exposure to the intricacies of the print business, coupled with the strong work ethic he inherited from his father, empowered him to venture into entrepreneurship. In his early 30s, he took the bold step of starting Lazer Systems, Inc., building on the foundation laid by the experiences and opportunities provided by Curless Printing.

Growing up, I watched my dad navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship with grace and resilience.

I am proud to be a first-generation college graduate, a milestone made possible by the sacrifices and hard work of my father and grandfather. My dad’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, the importance of kindness, and the impact of a relentless work ethic.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad. Your journey continues to inspire and guide me every day.
